Est. Old Edinburgh
Two exquisitely appointed apartments nestled in the historic heart of Edinburgh, where centuries of Scottish heritage meet the warmth of quiet luxury.
Our Story
Ambience began with a single, stubborn belief — that a stay in Edinburgh should feel less like a booking and more like being handed a key to a trusted friend’s home. A friend with excellent taste, thick woollen blankets, and a bottle of something aged waiting on the sideboard.
We restored two apartments in the medieval heart of the Old Town with the patience the buildings demanded. Sixteenth-century stone was cleaned by hand. Original floorboards were coaxed back into service. Cornices were traced and repaired. Nothing was rushed. Nothing was replicated.
The result is quiet, unassuming, and deliberate. Rich leather chesterfields worn to a soft patina. Brass fixtures that catch candlelight. Linens washed in Highland water. Kitchens designed for long evenings rather than quick breakfasts. Every choice was made to slow you down.
We chose Old Edinburgh because it refuses to be modernised. The closes still smell of rain and stone. The pubs still keep their fires lit. The bells still mark the hour. You cannot hurry a city like this — and, gratefully, it will not let you.
Two Apartments
Apartment
A first-floor sanctuary above the West Bow. Deep leather sofas face a working fireplace, floor-to-ceiling bookshelves hold first editions gathered over decades, and a claw-foot tub sits beneath a leaded window. Two bedrooms. Sleeps four in unhurried comfort.
Apartment
A top-floor retreat with sloped ceilings and dormer windows looking toward the Castle. Warmer, smaller, more intimate. A four-poster in velvet, a copper kitchen, and a reading nook built into the eaves. One bedroom. Sleeps two — perhaps three, if you’re close.
We keep them all, and we keep them out of sight.
Full apartments. Private entrance. Your own kitchen, your own key, your own hours.
Original 17th-century features preserved by hand, complemented by considered contemporary comfort.
A single point of contact from booking to farewell. No call centres. No forms. A person.
Deep-set windows, thick stone walls, hushed courtyards. You will sleep well.
Hand-woven throws, Scottish linens, working ironmongery. Nothing here was purchased in bulk.
Four minutes to the Royal Mile. Seven to the Castle. Eleven to the National Museum.
A magnetosphere is the invisible field generated by Earth’s core. It deflects the solar wind — the constant, high-energy bombardment that would strip the atmosphere bare. Without it, life on Earth would be impossible.
Regulations are also a wind of high-energy particles — relentless and constantly shifting. Without the right field around your organisation, they will strip it bare too. The magnetosphere is that field. Magnetosphere Ltd is your protection.
Step outside and discover Edinburgh at your own pace. From intimate restaurants serving exceptional Scottish cuisine to centuries-old landmarks and quiet walking routes, the city reveals something new around every corner.
The Little Chartroom for restrained Scottish plates. Timberyard for slow tasting menus. The Devil’s Advocate for a whisky and something warm. Fhior, if you have three hours to spare.
The Castle, of course. But also Mary King’s Close, St Giles’, the writers’ museum, Greyfriars Kirkyard at dusk, and the Real Mary King’s tunnels beneath your feet.
Arthur’s Seat at sunrise. Dean Village along the Water of Leith. Calton Hill on a clear night. Every route from our door is under ten minutes to something remarkable.
Two apartments. One quiet corner of Old Edinburgh. Yours, whenever you’re ready.
